A broader look at love this week of love!

“We choose love. Our love for our children. Our commitment to leaving them a better world. Our love for our country ... our love for our fellow citizens ... that’s what we choose.” — Michelle Obama
Love
Love is the universal principle that transcends race, ethnicity, culture & all distinctives. However, for African Americans, like any other people group, their experiences historically shape the understanding & approach to love. Lets generally explore some benefits of love, share some humorous & relevant historical & cultural references, & provide tips for implementing & improving love in your life in 2023.
Love and its Benefits
Love, in our view, is the fundamental energy of the universe. We can atleast agree that Love is one of the most powerful emotions we experience as human beings. It has the power to heal, uplift, & transform us. When we experience love, our brains release hormones like oxytocin & dopamine, which can boost our mood, reduce stress, & even strengthen our immune systems. Additionally, studies have shown that people who experience love & connection in their relationships are generally happier & healthier.
Historical and Cultural References
As an African Americans, I can attest that our history & culture are rich with references to love & relationships. From the powerful love stories of our ancestors to the long list of love songs that have influenced the world, we have a wealth of inspiration to draw from. For example, the poem "Phenomenal Woman" by Maya Angelou celebrates the beauty & strength of women, while the song "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell testifies of the power of love to overcome obstacles.
Tips for Improving Love in 2023
