Melanated Mother's Love

As we celebrate the month of May & honor our mothers on Mother's Day, it is important to reflect on the significance of this occasion in our lives. For African Americans in urban areas, our mothers have been the backbone of our families & communities. Our most consistent source of love, guidance, & strength in the face of adversity. This month, let us celebrate the spirit of motherhood & the powerful symbolism that it holds for us all.

For our Melanated Mothers, the month of the Mother is particularly significant, as it is a time to reflect on the struggles & triumphs of our ancestors. To the mothers who fought for the freedom of their children & communities; from the torment of the Islamic trade to the horror of the Trans Atlantic to the civil rights mothers who marched for justice & equality, we owe a debt of gratitude to the strong women who bore us.

In celebrating Melanated Mother's Day & the month of May, we must also recognize the ongoing challenges that our communities face. From systemic racism & inequality to economic hardship & health disparities, African Americans in urban areas continue to face significant barriers to success. However, we can take inspiration from the resilience & strength of our mothers. Our mothers are born with all of the potential children she will ever bear. Our mothers carry us with them long before we ever nurse at her bosom. Even then, before we had a thought, we knew she was our source of nourishment & safety. We live with the echoes of communion in the her womb via the Bao Mai till the day we die, many unaware. This being , the Melanated Mother, is certainly worthy of our admiration! This is just scratching the surface.

As we look to the future, it is essential that we work to empower & educate ourselves & our communities. Through education, activism, & collective action, we can create a better future for ourselves & our children. Let's make a core curriculum honoring the spirit & science of motherhood & the sacrifices that our mothers have made for us. Let us use this month as a call to action for positive change in our communities.

In conclusion, as we celebrate Mother's Day & the month of May, let us take inspiration from the prolific science & powerful symbolism of motherhood. Seek spaces to use it as a catalyst for education & empowerment. Take action each day in thought, word & deed to honor & care for our mothers & create safe spaces for them. By working together & taking action to address the challenges that our communities face, we can create a brighter future for ourselves & our families. We can create spaces of healing, nurturing, love & thriving for our mothers. It is the least we can do.
