Cultivating Empowerment

Dear ELEVATED Community,

I’m your brother K, & today is a great day to have a great day! As we step into March, the promise of spring brings renewal & rejuvenation. This month, we focus on the first pillar of our ELEVATED acronym — Empowered. Empowerment is at the heart of self-actualization & community strength. It's about finding & nurturing the power within ourselves to make choices & drive changes that enrich our lives & the lives of those around us.

Embracing Empowerment

Empowerment is defined as giving someone authority to do something; to make them stronger & more confident, especially in controlling their own life.  It goes beyond personal gain; it's about harnessing our innate strengths to uplift each other. How does one give themself the authority to live the life they deserve? I have a few practical steps you can take.

Initiatives and Highlights for March:

  1. Use what offends you! Think of the things people do & say that annoys you all the way to plainly pissing you off. See & feel as much detail about these situations as possible. Write 5 to 10 scenarios in detail as well as your responses or personal explanation of why it happens.

  2. Find yourself in the offense! Review each scenario you wrote & examine your life. Be every bit as nit-picky about clearly identifying where & how you do those offenses. No matter how small, find where & how you display these behaviors.

  3. Forgive yourself & the others! By doing this, often difficult exercise, you unlock a level of self awareness, self knowledge & control through forgiveness. If you’re in the SoCal area,  join us for workshops focusing on skill-building, self-confidence,  decision-making. We also have Community Action Day, Storytelling Evenings.

Empowerment in Action: Member Spotlights

This month our feature story comes from Sheila, a high school teacher who has dealt with anxiety for some time. Outside of work, healing family relationships & building new ones was a challenge. In her words, “Everything always seemed like too much.” She recently shared that one of the tools she heard offered in an ELEVATED workshop, “What is good or bad?”, has aided her in confronting her own behavior & so better identifying what she was really afraid of. This week she is literally prepping her home to throw a party for a yoga group she has since joined. She gave herself the authority to heal old connections & make new ones!

Extra Tips for Everyday Empowerment:

  • Set Clear Goals: Define what empowerment looks like for you in various areas of your life. Setting clear, achievable goals is the first step toward taking control of your journey.

  • Educate Yourself: Knowledge is power. Invest time in learning new skills or deepening your understanding of areas that interest you. This could be through books, courses, or engaging with mentors.

  • Practice Self-Care: Empowerment also involves taking good care of your mental & physical health. Prioritize activities that nurture your body & mind, such as meditation, exercise, or creative hobbies.

  • Build Your Network: Connect with like-minded individuals who encourage & support your growth. A strong network can provide not only inspiration but also practical assistance & opportunities.

As we embrace the fresh energy of each day, let's commit to being empowered & empowering others. Fuller self awareness & total responsibility for ourselves with total regard & encouragement for the other. Together, we can forge a path that leads to greater self-realization & community collaboration. Here’s to a powerful, productive, & positive month ahead!

Best & Better,

K
